PRESIDENT'S LETTER

Dear Colleagues,

We have some exciting news and important updates to share regarding our collective progress and accomplishments.

At the September 2023 Emergency Nurses Association’s EN23 conference in San Diego, we celebrated the induction of two AAENP members into the prestigious Academy of Emergency Nursing: Bradley Goettl, an AAENP board member, and Jacob Miller, co-chair of the AAENP EMS special interest group. David House, an AAENP board member, received the Frank L. Cole Nurse Practitioner Award, recognizing his excellence as a nurse practitioner in emergency care. Congratulations, Brad, Jacob, and David!

We are pleased to announce that both the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists (NACNS) and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board have endorsed our position statement, “Re-envisioning the emergency nurse practitioner (ENP) role.” This is a significant step towards the recognition and advancement of the ENP. We are actively engaging with other nursing organizations and stakeholders to seek additional endorsements for this position statement, recognizing its potential to shape and enhance the ENP role.

In collaboration with NACNS, we have developed a comprehensive talking point document that highlights the current state of the ENP as a specialty and its implications for the future. AAENP has developed an About ENPs webpage where this and more information about the ENP role can be found.

We are excited to announce the formation of a national task force dedicated to advancing the role of ENPs. Comprising experts in APRN licensure, accreditation, certification, and education, this task force will serve as a think tank to foster discussions regarding the ENP role. The task force will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our work and elevating its prominence within the healthcare landscape. Looking ahead, 2024 marks a significant milestone as AAENP celebrates its 10-year anniversary. To commemorate this achievement, we invite you all to our birthday party celebration at the 2024 EmergNP Conference, hosted at the Hilton Salt Lake City Center from March 15 through 17, 2024. I hope to see you there to celebrate this remarkable decade of progress and growth. Thank you for your continued dedication and support to AAENP. Together, we are shaping the future of emergency care, and there’s much more to achieve in the coming years.

Best regards,

Wesley Davis

President, American Academy of Emergency Nurse Practitioners

In partnership with our colleagues at the American College of Medical Toxicology (ACMT) an with AKH Inc (Advancing Knowledge in Healthcare), our members have access to a new opportunity to help DEA-licensed healthcare practitioners satisfy the eight-hour training requirement on the treatment and management of opioid or other substance use disorders mandated by the Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) Act.

These CE accredited webinar-based activities can be purchased individually or as a 4-activity package (a $40 savings). Each activity is accredited and has its own Continuing Education certificate. When packaged together, the 4 activities award 8.50 credits, more than the requirement needed to maintain DEA licensure. All content is on-demand so learners can access at their convenience.

The education does not have to occur in one session–it can be cumulative across multiple sessions. CE activities listed on this page can be taken in any combination to fulfill the eight-hour requirement. Please see detailed information on CE options for these activities here.
