Dear Colleagues,

As we start the new year, the AAENP Board of Directors has been busy streamlining processes, focusing our initiatives, and building more robust partnerships to ultimately benefit you as members.  I want to take this opportunity to highlight for you some of this work:

• Expanded member benefits - AAENP members receive discounted prices on several courses and materials. Additionally, members have free access to the association's official journal, Advanced Emergency Nursing Journal. These benefits and more can be found on our member benefits page.

• Redesign of our website - be watching for the new look to launch late Spring

• Toolkits and resources for employers  - The AAENP Practice Toolkit was published in December 2022 and will be used to launch new services & partnerships for employers

• Planning for a Speaker's Bureau so that we can rapidly respond to needs for speakers and experts on focused projects. Be watching for the applications coming soon!

• Enhanced continuing education options - In addition to the upcoming EmergeNP23 conference, AAENP is offering continued monthly webinars and Journal Clubs which offer FREE CE to our members

• Greater ENP Advocacy - Through our partnerships with AANP & NCC, AAENP is responding to member concerns and national challenges which impact your practice

• Partnerships with Professional organizations - Be looking for projects coming soon which represent AAENP partnerships with other professional organizations to support both your clinical practice and your educational needs

I do want to highlight one time-sensitive opportunity that is currently available to those not certified as an ENP or a member of AAENP. Now is a great time to take the certification exam or become a member. Our partners at American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board are currently offering an examination promotion (link below in the newsletter) Additionally, AAENP is providing a $50 rebate to new members who join AAENP and pass their ENP certification exam before February 14, 2023.  See our Facebook page for more details. By joining AAENP and encouraging your peers to do the same, we can ensure further ENP support in 2023!

Call for participants! Provide Input on Clinical Tools to Manage Obstetric Emergencies in the ED

AAENP has partnered with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) to enhance readiness to provide timely treatment for pregnancy-related emergencies. We would like to request your help in reviewing clinical algorithms specifically designed for emergency practitioners to ensure they are useful in the emergency department.

In the U.S, approximately 700 women will die each year from pregnancy-related causes, such as cardiovascular and hypertensive conditions, and more than half of pregnancy-related deaths happen up to one year after delivery.  As an emergency NP, you play a critical role in identifying and treating what may be a life-threatening situation when a pregnant or postpartum patient presents to your emergency department.

What should I expect?

ACOG is hosting an online discussion board where participants will share their feedback about the materials. Participants should expect to spend 2 hours reviewing materials at their own pace during a 2-week period in February. Participants will be offered a $375 e-gift card as a thank-you for their voluntary participation.

How do I participate?

If you are interested in participating, complete this brief screening questionnaire by February 3, 2023. If selected, you will be contacted by the evaluation vendor, Schlesinger Group, within 2 weeks.

This project is funded by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and is being administered by NORC at the University of Chicago. Contact user-testing@norc.org for more information.
