PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

AAENP’s EmergNP 2024 annual conference held March 15 – 17 in Salt Lake City, Utah was a phenomenal success! The Energy and Engagement of attendees was positive, invigorating, substantial and palpable throughout the event. My own personal level of excitement during the conference continues as I eagerly anticipate EmergNP 2025 during March 13 – 16 in Dallas, Texas.

AAENP’s conference committee knocked it out of the park assembling a robust agenda with rigorous educational and procedural content including poster presentations. Reconnection and reflection with old and new emergency colleagues were evident as peer networking and collaboration throughout the conference.  Many attendees took advantage of numerous opportunities to gain procedural credits during the Thrive pre-conference and on Sunday during the Emerg-NP conference. An opening keynote address was presented by Sarah Michelle Boes, NP, Blueprint’s Chief Nursing Officer and Founder of SMNP Reviews. She addressed needed shifts in delivery of nursing education to address the importance that mental health quality has on student nurse wellness and on nursing professionals throughout their careers. Additionally, she expounded on career opportunities through nursing entrepreneurship, using her own journey as an entrepreneur as an exemplar.

There was MAGIC in the air during the 10th Anniversary “Denim & Diamonds” birthday bash celebration with cupcakes galore, sponsored by Blueprint. Dressed in denim and sparkling attire, attendees enjoyed a lively celebration commemorating AAENP’s national presence and the decade-long sustainable impact that the organization has made to elevate NP’s providing emergency care. The celebration further ignited energy and interest in AAENP initiatives. Many members attending the conference elected to serve on committees to become more engaged with peers in moving AAENP forward into a second decade of accomplishments. Others joined AAENP special interest groups to network and collaborate with peers in specialized areas of emergency care.

During an inaugural Awards & Recognition ceremony, seven extraordinary ENP leaders were recognized for their contributions to emergency care. Founder and inaugural president of AAENP, Dr. Elda Ramirez was honored for her visionary leadership, tenacity and pioneering spirit that launched the organization on a trajectory of success in 2014. Award recipients included Juan Gonzalez (Excellence in Leadership), Ken Stackhouse (Excellence in Community Engagement), Dian Evans (Excellence in Research), Fred Barton (Excellence in Advocacy), Ari Chaskes (Student Excellence Award), & Michael Sweeney (Excellence in Practice).

A vibrant line-up of conference sponsors and exhibitors was crucial to conference success. We are grateful for the time and expertise of these supportive representatives in making products, equipment, and information important to emergency care delivery available to conference attendees.

Believe me, you do not want to miss EmergNP 2025 next year in Dallas, TX. Gather your cowboy hat and boots and join with us as we kick our heels up, learn, network, and celebrate another year of celebrating our passion for emergency care to unify as ENPs and push our profession further towards excellence and sustainable impact!!

Lastly, I wish to thank the fearless founders of AAENP, Dr. Elda Ramirez, Dr. Kyle Kincaid, and Dr. Arlo Weltge. Without their visionary leadership, commitment and dedication to NPs in emergency care AAENP would not exist, and the voice of emergency nurse practitioners would not be recognized and sustainable. Join me as we move toward the second decade of AAENP and future accomplishments.

Cheers to YOU and all you do to elevate emergency care!!
