Meet the new Illinois State Representative


Melissa Brewer, DNP, FNP-BC is an emergency nurse practitioner working at a critical access hospital in rural Illinois in both the Emergency Department and Urgent Care. She has been a nurse practitioner for two years and has been a registered nurse for 10 years. Before becoming a nurse, she worked as a social worker. Melissa has won a few awards, including a Daisy Award and DNP Student Award. She is active in many state and national professional organizations. We are grateful that Melissa is willing to help her Illinois colleagues!

On the national level, AAENP partners with Nursing Community Coalition. The NCC is a group of 63 members organizations representing education, practice, research, and regulation within the nursing profession. With over four million licensed Registered Nurses (RNs), Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs), and nursing students, the profession embodies the drive and passion to continually improve care for patients, families, and communities.
