How to Attract & Retain Talent
|
Plan to be LIVE and in-person with us at The Osthoff Resort in Elkhart Lake, when presenter Dawn Tryba, MBA, CPBC, CMC, PMP, Tryba Services/Professional Business Coach, presents “Strategies to Attract and Retain Top Talent.”
It will come as no surprise to you that research shows the power has shifted from the employer to the candidate. This means attracting the best talent is not just about profiling the role and your organizational fit, it's much more about finding out what likely candidates will want from you as an employer. This will require a compelling employee value proposition (EVP), which encompasses all the benefits and opportunities your company offers to attract new employees and keep current ones. During this session, Dawn will address the ten most basic issues facing leaders: attracting and retaining talent, developing the talent you have, managing performance, creating leadership teams, making decisions, reorganizing to capture value quickly, reducing overhead costs for the long term, making culture a competitive advantage, leading transformational change, and transitioning to new leadership roles.
Connect with your WSAE colleagues at our May 23-24 event, LIVE @ The Osthoff Resort.
There are quite a few opportunities to gain exposure sponsoring one of our featured speakers or other event elements! Check out the support prospectus.

Hustle Culture

by LIVE! @ The Osthoff presenter CJ McClananahan, Professional Business Coach, Author, Speaker
In 2014, Timothy Wilson conducted a study in which participants stated that they would pay money to avoid an electric shock. No surprises there.
However, once they were left alone in the lab room, the inactivity became too much to bear, and people sought to fill the void.
The result? 67% of men and 25% of women chose to press a button to electrically shock themselves rather than sit still with their own thoughts.
Can you relate? Being present is more than difficult – it can be painful. However, as I’m learning, it is the only way to achieve the true sense of peace we actually crave.
Take some time to sit in silence for a few minutes. What do you feel? Notice? Take a moment to honor those things, then move on with your day.
Check out CJ’s website for more about him!

Beyond the Rainbow—Build a Diverse Board of Independent Thinkers
|
by Sherry Budziak, Founder and CEO, .orgSource
The boardroom is the last place where CEOs want to rock the boat. But good governance shouldn’t be comfortable. If too many heads bob in agreement, you might want to take a closer look at who is seated at the table.
Collegiality among leaders is a good thing. It can fast track important projects. On the other hand, a shortage of debate could be a symptom of tunnel vision. A narrow view might cause you to leave options unexplored, miss hidden opportunities, and even accelerate the wrong initiatives.
Associations have been slow to respond to the reality of their members’ changing demographics. In fairness, some of the reluctance is probably due to entrenched processes for electing or appointing directors. Bylaws changes can be complex and time consuming.

Biden Administration Weighs Rules for AI Tools
|
The Biden administration is weighing how to regulate the explosion of artificial intelligence (AI) tools such as ChatGPT that are transforming how companies and associations operate.
Earlier this week, the Commerce Department asked for public comments on how it could create regulations that would ensure AI tools work as advertised. The Federal Trade Commission is also looking into how generative AI could exacerbate scams or fraud.
ASAE is holding a “Just-in-Time” online program on “Critical Considerations Surrounding ChatGPT and Generative AI” on May 11 from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. The program will explore the non-technical questions that associations will have to navigate on the road to maximizing generative AI. More information.
