We don’t know about you, but the IBPSA staff has been inundated with even more spam in our email boxes lately. We thought that we would share with you a few things that we look out for when going through our emails.
Double check the address that the email is coming from. A generic email address full of letters and numbers should be a red flag.
Watch out for spoof accounts. These are emails that pretend to be from a recognizable organization such as Amazon, Apple, or even IBPSA. Does the sender’s email address include the organization’s @ address? For example, all IBPSA emails come from @ibpsa.com.
Do any corporate logos included look like they were copied from a website? Are they blurry and hard to read? Hover over them and see if they contain a legitimate link address.
Is the sender asking you to click a link for “verification”, or to access a site? Unless you initiated such a request, (i.e., through two-factor authentication) then do not click on the link.
Is the sender asking you for financial information? That is a huge red flag! Never provide your financial information via an email or an unsolicited phone call. If you want to confirm legitimacy, look up the contact information yourself – remember that scammers will provide phone numbers that they answer themselves.
Although IBPSA does NOT sell our membership data or conference attendee/exhibitor data, enterprising scammers can pull information from public directories.
When it comes to conference, remember that the only two legitimate ways to book your hotel room is via the online direct link or by calling the hotel directly.
If you ever have a question about an email from IBPSA, you can reach out to us at membership@ibpsa.com, or call the office at 877-318-8172.
