WSAE LIVE@The Osthoff Planning Committee Report
|
By Chair, Mike DiFrisco, CAE
Chief Marketing Officer, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry
One of the takeaways from last year’s successful Live @Lambeau event was that the committee charged with shaping the 2022 session leveraged the location for best effect in choosing educational topics and presenters. The 2023 Live @Osthoff committee, then, following that lead and took advantage of the Elkhart Lake location of the Osthoff Resort to create two days of programming relevant to association leaders and AMCs. With the famed Road America auto racing venue nearby, the committee settled on the theme “Take Your Association from Zero to 60!” From there, topics and speakers were developed and the program began to come to life.
The Live @Osthoff committee brought some fresh perspectives to the educational lineup and in May, attendees will be treated to diverse topics making headlines and issues association executives are buzzing about. From addressing staffing challenges, to the cybersecurity realities we all have to face, to unleashing the power of events. This will be one not to miss!
Connect with your WSAE colleagues at our May 23-24 event, LIVE @ The Osthoff Resort. But hurry – Early registration rates expire TODAY!

Get to Know: Caroline Bowers
Executive Director, Impact Association Management Company
Chair, WSAE 2023 Communications Committee
How did you end up working in Associations?
My career started in nonprofit communications and fundraising. I have worked at several non-profits in other states including Habitat for Humanity chapters in Tennessee and Texas. My passion has always been giving back, providing opportunities to underserved communities, and making volunteer board members’ lives easier. I moved to Madison in 2017 from Austin, Texas. I stayed home with my first child for a year as I acquainted myself with our new city and being a mom. I found that I needed to shift a bit in my career to accommodate my new obligations as a mom. I wanted to find something where my skills would be utilized, I would still be fulfilled by my work, yet still be able to balance my work and home life. I found my administrative, communications, management, and fundraising skills gained from nonprofit work to be completely aligned with association management. I started with Impact Association Management Company in 2018 as an Association Manager and have worked my way up to Executive Director. I now serve as the Executive Director for three associations.

From Diversity Audits to Employee Resource Groups: Steps for Creating an Inclusive Workplace Culture
|
By Shawn Elmore, Client Success Manager, Impact Association Management Company
Associations play a critical role in representing the interests of their members and promoting their industries. However, to achieve their objectives, associations need to create a culture of inclusivity that values diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) principles. An inclusive culture promotes a positive and welcoming environment for everyone to succeed regardless of their background, race, gender, abilities, or sexual orientation. In this article, we'll explore how associations can use DEI principles to create a more inclusive workplace culture, along with eight actionable steps and resources to help them achieve this goal:
Create a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee
The first step to creating an inclusive workplace culture is to establish a DEI committee. The committee will be responsible for assessing and implementing DEI principles in the organization. It should consist of a diverse group of individuals from different backgrounds and departments who will work together to develop strategies that will make the association more inclusive.

The Rocky Future of Membership
|
It’s not that the younger generation doesn’t want to join associations or that members are slowly going to stop engaging. However, if it feels like engaging members, attendees, writers, speakers, and volunteers is harder...
