It was no day at the beach for the teams of military water treatment specialists competing against each other in this year's Reverse Osmosis Water Purification Rodeo from May 8-12, 2023, as the five day U.S. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) competition tested their skills and readiness under the watchful guidance of U.S. Army Reserve instructors from the 94th Training Division – Force Sustainment, who served as evaluators and support staff for the ROWPU Rodeo, along with civilian FORSCOM instructors.

Craft Beers Are Selling Americans on Drinking Recycled Wastewater

Earlier this year, a new beer appeared on the menu at Fox City Brewing Company in Forsyth, Georgia. Opened three years ago in a former ice house an hour south of Atlanta, Fox City serves pale ales, stouts and other microbrews. The new addition, called Revival Lager, stands apart from anything it’s made before — and from nearly every other beer on tap in the US. Fox City’s menu calls it a “light, crisp, eco-friendly lager made from highly repurposed and recycled water.”

Severn Trent Sets Out Plans for World’s First Carbon Neutral Wastewater Treatment as a ‘Blueprint’ for the Future

Staffordshire is set to become home to the world’s first carbon neutral wastewater treatment plant after securing £10M through Ofwat’s £40M innovation competition announced last week. Following the win, Severn Trent Water has now revealed more detail on the planned project, expected to cost almost £40M, with work set to start in September. The project will transform a large, carbon intensive wastewater treatment plant into the world’s first retro-fit carbon neutral site in Strongford, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire.

United Utilities to Lead £8.9M Programme of Nature-Based Solutions to Help Improve Water Treatment
|
United Utilities will be leading an £8.9m national programme to bring more nature-based solutions into the water sector. The North West’s water company, working with The Rivers Trust, Jacobs, and Mott MacDonald, and partners from across the water industry and other sectors, has been awarded £8m in the latest round of industry regulator Ofwat’s Water Breakthrough Challenge. A further £900,000 will be provided by partners.

Lummus Technology, a global provider of process technologies and value-driven energy solutions, announced that it has reached an agreement with Siemens Energy to acquire assets from their water solutions portfolio including intellectual property and copyrights, trade secrets, and research and development properties. The technologies address water and wastewater needs of the oil and gas industry using carbon adsorption, biological treatment and hydrothermal processes.

EPA Announces $173 Million Investment to Strengthen Drought Resilience in Ventura, California
|
At an event in Ventura, California, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Assistant Administrator for Water Radhika Fox today announced two Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) loans totaling $173 million. With these loans, the City of Ventura will establish a new, local drought-resistant water supply to enhance the city’s resilience to climate change while creating good paying jobs.
