The Importance of CEFP Recertification
Earning your Certified Educational Facilities Professional (CEFP) is an essential step for facilities professionals who want to demonstrate advanced expertise in the field. The next important step is maintaining your CEFP through recertification.
CEFP certification lasts for four years. To remain certified, CEFP holders must earn a required 120 points within a cycle running four years from the day/month/year certification was earned or four years from the day/month/year last recertified. For example, if you passed the exam on September 12, 2020, your CEFP credential would expire on September 11, 2024. The recertification points come from a combination of four (4) categories (Employment, Education, Leadership, and Research/Publication). A minimum of 40 points must be earned from the Educational category. In addition, there is a renewal fee of $350.00. An outline of activities that qualify for recertification points can be found on the Qualifying Activities page. Recertification templates can be found here.
Retired CEFP holders are not required to earn points to renew their credential. Still, they must submit a letter on company letterhead with their name and date of retirement signed by the human resources department or department chair. This must be done before the CEFP credential expiration date and there is no fee for the renewal for retirees.
