PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Dear AAENP Colleagues,

Many great things are happening right now at AAENP! In June, our organization was well-represented at the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) conference in Nashville, TN. Our 10th anniversary birthday bash celebration held during EmergNP in Salt Lake City continued at AANP with birthday cake, prize giveaways, collegial networking, and the addition of new members. I had the opportunity to meet Dr. Loretta Ford, a co-founder of the nurse practitioner profession, who was recognized and honored at multiple events. Admittedly, I was overwhelmed to be in the presence of this notable centenarian who is also known as the “Mother of nurse practitioners.” To meet her face-to-face was like meeting Florence Nightingale to me! She wanted to hear about what ENPs are doing in practice these days, so I made sure to emphasize that her tenacity lives on in emergency NPs globally! This resulted in a coy smile from Dr. Ford!

Other accomplishments early in the summer include:

  • A successful AAENP Townhall. Based on this event, a decision was made to host Townhalls quarterly in 2025 with varying weekdays and times to accommodate additional member schedules. Registration is required to gain meeting details, & is available on our website, in the newsletter and on social media.

  • Launch of AAENP’s first Nominations & Elections process earlier this month! Our inaugural Nominations and Elections committee has been hard at work setting policies guided by the bylaws in motion and finalizing details for procedures including the software mechanism by which members will vote. The call for nominations is currently open and will close on August 9th. You can find more information below, on our website and on social media.

In early August, applications open for the Kyle Kincaid scholarship. We encourage ENP students to apply for this scholarship, especially those who will be working in a rural area following graduation.

Looking further ahead, please mark your calendars for our upcoming AAENP national conference - EmergNP 2025 in Dallas, TX from March 14-16, 2025. The call to submit abstracts for podium and poster presentations will be announced very soon by our conference committee who has been working diligently to assure that educational content is of substantial quality and relevant to practicing ENPs.

Each of these initiatives represents our member needs and expertise. Thank you for your ongoing commitment and support to AAENP. Together, we can continue to elevate our profession and make a positive impact on healthcare globally.

Stay safe and BE THE DIFFERENCE in quality emergency care,

Melanie Gibbons Hallman, DNP, CRNP, CNS, FAEN, FAANP, FAAN
